Five quotes to make you appreciate teachers even more

World Teachers Day is celebrated to honour teachers and their contribution to education across the world. It is also used to highlight some of the issues that face teachers today.

This year’s theme, “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher,” was selected as a reminder to the global community that the world cannot enjoy the right to education without trained and qualified teachers.  The shortage of teachers is high especially when it comes to vulnerable populations, such as girls, children with disabilities, refugee and migrant children, or poor children living in rural or remote areas.

Here are five quotes that will make you appreciate teachers even more:

1. William Ward

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”

2. Malala Yousafzai

Let us remember: one book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world.

3. Maria Montessori

To stimulate life, leaving it then free to develop, to unfold, herein lies the first task of the teacher.

4. African proverb

What you help a child to love can be more important than what you help him to learn

5. Brad Henry

A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.
